- First off Don’t Cheat! It takes time and dedication to properly optimize a website. If you’re paying for AdWords and you’re caught using suspicious script or Black Hat techniques, you’re going to lose your AdWords account. Even if you’re not paying for AdWords, search engines will penalize your website. Cheating could put you under, before you’ve even started.
- If you’re not SEO optimizing your blog, website, business startup, etc. you’re costing yourself traffic. Believe me, if I followed my own advice, I’d have a lot more traffic, but I’m busy spending my talents on other people’s websites and small businesses to put a lot of focus on this site or any of my others. But, I am thinking keywords and I get crafty with my posts, making sure to always include popular search terms.
- Find the best search terms is easier than you think. Just head on over to the Google AdWords: Keyword Tool and use the tool to research proper keywords. Certainly, this isn’t the only way to find successful keywords, it’s going to take some work, but if you include a nice variation of keywords, you’ll see Google increasing your traffic right away. This is the exact reason you don’t need to pay AdWords to get traffic. You can get traffic using SEO and it will be organic search traffic, which is much better than the paid kind.
- One of the worst SEO practices is allowing bad content onto your site. Make a content site that actually has worthwhile traffic. You can read about Google’s Panda Update here. Google is beginning to recognize content mills and they’re not sending them the traffic they used to. This is because nobody wants to read broken English or “Spun” content. Google and the people it represents (your target market) want more from your website so understand that and hire talented fluent English writers. Believe me, you get what you pay for and you’ll get the best traffic when you hire a smart writer who delivers quality content.
- SEO practices require dedication – day in and day out. You need to be familiar with your stats. If you can’t find the time to find out what’s working for your website, then you’re going to miss out on SEO driven traffic. For example, on my personal website: http://www.somewriters.com, I wrote a post about Catherine the Great. This post is from October 2011 and still ranks as my most successful, it gets regular hits. I’ve tried variations and have found something that works in order to emulate its success. It’s important to pay attention to what’s popular on your site and play to your site’s strengths.
- So, for more information on how to SEO market correctly, check out some of these blog posts. I’m always open for conversation about this practice and love helping those just starting out, so don’t be afraid to leave a comment and let me know if this article is helping, what your questions are and what content you’d like to see on this blog.

“And a new philosophy emerged called quantum physics, which suggest that the individual’s function is to inform and be informed. You really exist only when you’re in a field sharing and exchanging information. You create the realities you inhabit.”
