It’s difficult to write a resume.  However, you have to have one for many of the legitimate writing jobs out there.  Oftentimes your resume will need to be changed before sending it off to a potential employer.  It’s important to just have a basic template, and then you can make adjustments tailoring it to each writing job you’re applying for.

Microsoft Word has a number of resume templates.  They’re all great in their own way.  Remember that you are applying for a writing job, so try and be detailed.  It is likely potential employers will be judging your resume on every word, on the grammar and on the content.  So be detailed and write a resume that is impressive.
I like to include an objective in my resume.  I always tailor this objective to the company I’m hoping to work for.  For example, I may write this if I were applying to write content for a Pet Foods Website.  OBJECTIVE: Dedicated and talented writer seeking freelance writing position with a company that inspires my creativity, such as an opportunity to write about animals and pets.
Something like that should be sufficient.  It’s important to then include a list of skills, previous experience and any links to your published work online.  If you don’t have any, that’s fine as I worked for three months straight without a single one, and never had an issue scoring job.  Before you write a resume, you should be writing samples of your work and lots of them.  More than the resume, potential employers are going to be judging you by your samples.  Always send off your best work.
For those who don’t have Microsoft Word but would still like a template to make writing a resume easier, please check out these links:
