Dennis Davern Today/MSNBC
First of all, isn’t lying to police a crime?  I don’t think the police should jump on arresting Dennis Davern for lying right away, as this may further screw with his memory of the events surrounding Natalie Wood’s death.

A little background for those that don’t know – Natalie Wood is an actress who died back in 1981 of drowning.  It was a suspicious death, but no charges were filed against any of the other three men on the boat.  Her husband Robert Wagner, actor Christopher Walken and the Captain of the boat, Dennis Davern, were all aboard when she died.  The story told to police was that Natalie wanted off the boat and so she had her way and ended up drowning to death.

Now Dennis Davern is coming forward to admit that he withheld the true account of the evening 30 years ago.  It seems Christopher Walken is still innocent, which is great because I don’t want to feel dirty after years of shouting, “More Cowbell,” and “You do it again and I'll stab you in the face with a soldering iron!”

A news conference is being held today and should give us all the details about the new information on the case.  For now, we just know that Dennis Davern is claiming his original recount of events is not the way it actually happened.  After arrests are made and police have their information I think Davern should be held accountable for his thirty year silence.  What did you have to gain or lose from telling the truth Davern?  Was he bribed for his silence?  Or is he just a giant jerk who didn’t care if this woman found justice?

Sorry!  I hate when people can’t act in situations.  It’s important to do what’s right.  You tell the truth and you help people when they’re in need.  Natalie Wood and her family deserved this information sooner.

The alleged drowning took place after Natalie Wood spent the evening partying with Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken on an anchored yacht near Santa Catalina Island.  Forensics experts discovered she’d been drinking before she drowned and her death was ruled as an accident.  People at the time weren’t so sure, but charges were never filed.

So… is this just recycled tabloid fodder?  It’s quite possible that Dennis Davern is looking to make some money, especially since he’s working with both Vanity Fair and 48 Hours Mystery.  In my opinion, he’s a bit of a scumbag either way.  On one hand Dennis is the kind of piece of shit who lets a woman die under suspicious circumstance, but lies to the police because of what?  He didn’t want to be involved, profits – whatever the reason it sucks!  The second way is far worse.  He’s the kind of scumbag who would open an old wound, the mystery surrounding her death (something her family has moved on from), just so he can make a buck.  Either way – I see this man as a liar, somebody that can’t be trust.

Also, Robert Wagner wrote an autobiography where he blamed himself for his wife’s death.  That can mean anything really, but her own sister Lana Wood claims his innocence, stating her sister was just very drunk in a biography she wrote on her.

I’m not sure what to believe on this one.  Any opinions are welcomed via the comments section.
